622Prophet Muhammad completes his hijra “flight” from Mecca to Medina with his followers.
1664 – The Dutch surrender New Amsterdam to the British, who promptly rename it New York. The little known Anglo-Dutch wars result in some “tug of war” over the island, but by 1674 it becomes officially British and in return, the Dutch get the South American island of Suriname. Fair trade.
1789 – Happy Birthday to the Supreme Court! The US Congress passes the Judiciary Act creating the office of the United States Attorney General, the federal judiciary system, & the Supreme Court of the United States.
1890The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officially renounces polygamy. Of course, this doesn’t stop the family on “Sister Wives.”
1948Honda is founded.
