1814- Francis Scott Key pens the words to the Star Spangled Banner. Then chooses a drinking song for the tune and condemns America to an anthem which is difficult for anyone but the most talented singers to perform well.
1857- Chocoholics rejoice and thank god that on this day in 1857 Milton S. Hershey was born!
1916- Children’s book author Roald Dahl is born. His childhood and Swedish roots influence his work: including The Witches, The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, and Going Solo.
1940: Italy invades Egypt. This was part of Il Duce’s push to regain Italy’s “Glory” days, ie. recreate the Roman Empire. Interestingly, like the first, and most famous, Roman Emperor, Caeser, Mussolini meets a grizzly end at the hands of his own countrymen.
1996—Rapper Tupac Shakur is killed in a drive by shooting. The case remains unsolved.
